My 1966 Ford Mustang GT coupe
My first car in high school was a red 66 Mustang coupe that I bought for 45 bucks! 30+ years and 50+ cars later, I own another red 66 Mustang coupe.
It is an original GT from the factory, but built to HiPo specs by the dealership (Don Sanderson Ford in Glendale, AZ); 271 hp with solid lifters, 9" rear with 11" drums (on rear, Kelsey Hayes discs up front)and 8 grand tach in Rally Pac. I upgraded factory 4 spd to a T5, added '65/'66 Shelby/Cragar wheels, '65 Shelby/Moto-lita wood steering wheel, Koni shocks, Shelby intake, etc. Carroll Shelby signed my visor last year in Tulsa, OK.
It is an Arizona car with all original sheetmetal with only 1 repaint of factory Candy Apple Red and 95% of the original exhaust.
I want it to look "period correct" when adding parts, nothing newer than '69, including the '66 inspection sticker in the window. I did add a full MSD ignition but I Dremeled off the MSD on the cap and repainted it to look more like stock. Then I bought the off-road 6A box, which is black, and hid it down underneath the water bag for the windshield squirters. Also, when I added the T5 I went with the stock looking shifter and a NOS wood shift knob.
My wife and I found it in Rhode Island and drove it over 2,200 miles home to Kansas, while driving through 7 states in one day and going to 3 car shows along the way. It did real good and I only had to change the fuel pump and buy one tire.
